Pyramid

The Gallery at Alta Resource table

This pyramid stands 91" tall with a 12' square base, and is a prototype for a garden sculpture of any size. The Pyramid proportions are taken from the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is a stable shape, becoming quite rigid as the last rib was joined into place. Made to last as an outdoor sculpture or lawn ornament, all the joints of this pyramid are designed to drain well, and the wood is coated with a semi-transparent stain preservative.

Despite its simplicity, this pyramid is also a complex shape. The outside faces of each rib are angled to form four flat sides, and the top is joined together in a 4 way compound miter. In this prototype, the but end of the ribs are skewed to form a grade cut. On a different site, the ribs could be of different lengths to accomodate placement on a hillside.

We suspended a fossil coral rock from the center eye. It swings just above the nose of a prone person, creating an enticing and relaxing experience. Some other applications of this architectural shape - roof structures in a timber frame house, or supports for a decorative canopy. E-mail us for more information.
